The Liminal Lounge

Overview

The Liminal Lounge is a roguelike decor puzzler, a genre mashup that shouldn’t work but does. You furnish rooms with tagged decorations (Luminous, Warm, Powered, etc.) to satisfy spirits who arrive with specific essence preferences.

Design Focus

Tag-Based Resonance

Every piece of furniture carries tags. Spirits want specific essence combinations across five categories: Nostalgic, Luxury, Vital, Occult, and Industrial. The magic happens when a single decoration satisfies multiple spirits at once, creating emergent solutions the designer didn’t script.

Soul Matching

Spirits aren’t just score targets. Each one has personality expressed through their decoration preferences. Matching them well feels like understanding a character, not solving a math problem.

Stamina as Pacing

A stamina system limits how many decorations you can place per visit, forcing prioritization. Do you perfectly satisfy one spirit or partially satisfy three? Resource pressure creates meaningful choices.

Technical

  • Built with Phaser 3, React, TypeScript
  • Tag-based system designed for emergent combinatorics
